Travel in the Philippines in August - Siargao

Our Philippines first trip started in Siargao, famous paradise for surfers. We planned 6 days there to improve our little surfers skills. Siargao is also a place recommended for travelling in the Philippines in August.

Our journey started in a small plane doing the transfer from Manilla. We first discovered the blue lagoon and coconut trees island from the sky, it was a great moment.

What to do in Siargao? Experiences and activities in Siargao

First thing to do when you arrive is to rent a scooter, essential if you want to be free and explore the island by yourself.

We directly wanted to check the famous surf spots of Cloud 9, Quicksilver, Tahiti and Jacking horse. We could already feel the surfing vibe with many little cafes and restaurants on the beach.

For surfing classes we decided to go with our hotel option so we could explore many spots and keep the same guide for the entire week. You can also opt to go on the spot first and rent a board or take a class form there: it is very easy and prices don’t vary much from one place to another.

Another activity we decided to do is Island hopping, famous in the Philippines. You embark on a local boat and explore as many island you decide. We choose to explore Corridor, Naked  Island, Daku and Guyam Islands. A very nice day with a fresh fish lunch in Corridor. Make sure to bring some cash with you as there’s always a tax to pay, you’ll soon rename the Philippines to ‘FEE-lippines’!

Siargao is also a great place to practise yoga. I personally enjoyed the classes vibe a lot. Soul tribe has all week classes morning and afternoon and you will be able to practise in front of the sea.

Restaurants, cafes and bars in Siargao

Let’s start with After surf Bowls 😎 a must in Siargao. Shaka cafe is the most famous one, situated on the beach facing the surf spots. Kokomo cafe is less famous but as good and even closer to the surf spots.

For lunch we tried Warung resort, spicy but good Indonesia food and have a great location on the beach in general Luna.

For diner we loved Bravo restaurant. The spot is amazing in the beach and food is great. Las Palmas has also a nice restaurant on the other side on the road.

For a nice drink set-up on the beach I do recommend barrel (only for drinks) and Kermit is also a good place for drinks + food.

Hotels in Siargao

We stayed at Soul Tribe Beach Retreat and we loved it. The ambiance is peaceful and you quickly feel at home. You are also surrounded by nice people and the food is good. One thing to note is that Soul Tribe Beach Resort is situated 15 minutes scooter ride from General Luna (the main place with all restaurants, bars but also the surfing spots).
